Job Summary
The Institute of Forest Genetics at the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute is seeking a full-time, permanent Scientist in Ecological Genetics. This role is crucial for assessing the status and threats to genetic diversity in trees and forest organisms, particularly in the context of climate adaptation. The successful candidate will lead the conceptual and methodological development of genetic surveys for national and international monitoring programs, including the National Forest Inventory. This involves leveraging modern genetic, genomic, and bioinformatic approaches like eDNA, metabarcoding, whole genome resequencing, and SNP arrays. You will analyze population genomic data to understand gene flow, genetic diversity, and adaptive variation, and translate these findings into actionable recommendations for policy. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to significant research, participate in international boards, and secure third-party funding, making it an impactful role for a dedicated scientist passionate about forest conservation and genetic research.
