Job Summary

Join the Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG) in Koblenz as a Research Scientist, focusing on aquatic ecology, fisheries science, or marine biology. This role, part of a project on anthropogenic noise in waterways, involves conceptualizing, developing, and implementing a hydroacoustic impact model for fish and marine mammals. You will establish threshold values from literature, build and test a measurement system with underwater speakers and hydrophones, and conduct boat and land-based hydroacoustic measurements across various federal waterways. The position requires a Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant biological field and offers the opportunity to document, present, and publish research findings nationally and internationally. This fixed-term position from January 2026 to December 2029 offers a stimulating environment within a large federal network dedicated to sustainable and efficient water systems.

Required Skills

Education

University Diploma or Master's degree in Biology with a specialization in Aquatic Ecology, Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, or comparable qualification. Relevant PhD (desirable).

Experience

  • Experience in project management and conducting research projects (desirable)
  • Extensive experience in measuring, filtering, and analyzing hydroacoustic signals (desirable)
