Job Summary

This role is for a dedicated Bat Specialist passionate about nature and environmental protection, particularly within the context of large-scale construction projects like wind power, solar, and infrastructure development. The primary responsibility involves conducting independent bat surveys and mapping in the field, primarily at night, from April to November. This includes using mobile detectors, identifying species by sound, conducting detailed species identification during net capture, and performing radio telemetry. During the off-season (November to March), the work shifts to data analysis, interpretation, report writing, and GIS data entry from a home office. The position requires extensive travel throughout Germany, with accommodation and travel costs covered. It offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to climate protection and environmental compliance within an internationally expanding company.

Required Skills

Education

Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Natural Sciences (e.g., Biology, Landscape Planning, Geography, Nature/Environment/Marine Studies) or equivalent qualification

Experience

  • Professional experience in bat surveying and mapping in the field
  • Experience with mobile bat detectors and species identification by sound
  • Experience in detailed bat species identification during net capture
  • Experience in radio telemetry and operating receiving equipment
  • Experience with data evaluation using identification software

Languages

German (Fluent)

Additional

  • Must possess a Class B driving license or be currently in training for one. Willingness to travel extensively throughout Germany and stay overnight in project areas (Monday to Friday). Ability to work independently and with endurance, especially during night shifts in the field.
