Job Summary

The Leibniz Institute for Photonic Technologies (Leibniz-IPHT) is seeking a Development Engineer with a focus on software to join its Sensor Systems and System Integration technology group in Jena. This role involves contributing to the development of system solutions, specifically transitioning laboratory setups to clinically viable instruments (TRL-level 6). The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing software for complex scientific devices, particularly microscopes and optical sensors, integrating electronic components, and performing function tests. Key responsibilities also include developing reusable software libraries for device control and data handling, alongside comprehensive software documentation. The position requires a strong background in engineering or natural sciences with a focus on programming, hardware control, and signal processing, coupled with industry experience in scientific instrument software development. This is an opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary, international research environment focused on innovative optical sensing and imaging solutions for biomedical applications.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Diploma/Master) in Electrical Engineering/Information Technology, Signal Processing, Technical Informatics, or a comparable field with a focus on programming for hardware/software integration in scientific devices; OR a natural science degree with strong understanding of programming, hardware control, and signal processing.
