Job Summary
The Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of North Rhine-Westphalia is seeking a Policy Officer for River Basin Management and Aquatic Ecology. This role involves coordinating the development of management plans for surface waters, ensuring compliance with the EU Water Framework Directive, and managing public participation processes. The successful candidate will contribute to the conceptual design of measures for achieving good water status, coordinate data collection and evaluation, and draft relevant documents. This is a unique opportunity to work on a critical environmental project within a state authority, focusing on the ecological health of major river systems like the Rhine, Weser, Ems, and Maas.
Required Skills
Education
Completed scientific university degree (Diplom, Master) in Natural Sciences or Engineering. Alternatively, qualification for career group 2, second entry-level of the technical service of the State Environmental Administration.
Experience
- Professional experience in creating management plans (advantageous)
- In-depth knowledge of the EU Water Framework Directive and related implementation guidelines (advantageous)
- Participation in committees of the Federal-State Working Group on Water (LAWA) related to the WFD (advantageous)

- This is a fixed-term contract for 3 years, linked to a specific project for the evaluation and revision of North Rhine-Westphalia's management planning according to the Water Framework Directive. The position is open to applicants from both within and outside the public service.
