Job Summary

This role involves supporting research in cognitive psychology by managing and maintaining experimental laboratories, including VR, EEG, and sound labs. The specialist will be responsible for the technical aspects of data collection, preparation, and analysis. A key part of the job is programming applications and software for experiments, using tools like Python, PsychoPy, Unity, or Unreal Engine. Additionally, the position requires setting up and maintaining IT infrastructure, including server solutions, and supporting the institute's website and participant recruitment platform. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in IT or software development, who enjoys working in an interdisciplinary scientific environment and is eager to learn new technologies.

Required Skills

Education

Bachelor's degree in Mathematical/Technical Software Development (formerly Scientific Programming), Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (preferably with a focus on Biomedical Engineering), or a comparable degree in a related field.

Experience

  • Experience with PsychoPy (ideal)
  • Experience with Unity 3D or Unreal Engine (ideal)
  • Experience with Electroencephalography (EEG) and/or experimental measurement technology for laboratory and online surveys (ideal)
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and procedures
  • Ability to acquire new knowledge in programming languages, hardware, and software products
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary team
  • Experience supporting scientific colleagues who are not technical or IT specialists

Additional

  • The position is temporary until March 31, 2027, and cannot be filled by individuals who have previously been employed by RWTH Aachen University, with exceptions for those over 52 years old and unemployed. This is a part-time position (24 hours per week).
