Job Summary

The University of Leipzig is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join the Institute for Meteorology as a PhD candidate, starting February or March 2026. This role is part of the DFG-funded ACADIA project, focusing on understanding aerosol-cloud-radiation interactions over New Zealand through a 1.5-year field campaign. The successful candidate will conduct independent research, developing and enhancing machine learning techniques to determine cloud thermodynamic phase profiles and precipitation processes. They will also perform 1D radiation transfer simulations, calibrate and operate remote sensing instruments during field campaigns, and publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about atmospheric research, cloud physics, and applying advanced data analysis methods to significant environmental challenges.
