Job Summary
The IP Engineer is tasked with safeguarding the company’s global intellectual property assets by executing the core IP strategy. This involves close collaboration with R&D teams across the U.S. and China to facilitate invention disclosures and identify patentable innovations. Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive prior art searches, performing patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses, and actively assisting legal counsel with patent drafting and prosecution. The role also requires maintaining IP databases, monitoring competitor activities, and providing IP awareness training to technical staff. Reporting to the General Counsel, this position offers a unique opportunity to bridge technical engineering expertise with critical legal strategy in an international environment, ensuring the effective protection and alignment of innovations with overarching business objectives. Candidates must hold a degree in Engineering and be fluent in both English and Mandarin.
Required Skills
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering. Patent Agent qualification or IP certification is a plus.
Experience
- Professional experience collaborating with R&D teams to identify patentable inventions
- Experience conducting prior art searches and providing patentability analysis
- Experience assisting with internal and external patent drafting processes
- Professional experience monitoring competitor patents and industry IP trends
Languages
Additional
- Familiarity with patent systems in major jurisdictions (e.g., US, EP, CN). Must be able to support R&D teams in the U.S. and China.
