Job Summary
The University of Potsdam is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head for its Geochronological Laboratory within the Institute of Geosciences. This role is pivotal in maintaining and advancing the institute's unique geochronological analysis capabilities, including U-Pb in zircon, thermochronological techniques (fission track, (U-Th)/He, 4He/3He), and cosmogenic nuclide analysis (10Be, 26Al in quartz). The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and leadership of the sample preparation labs, ensuring operational safety, quality control, and developing new techniques. A key part of the role involves performing and leading geochronological sample analysis using ICP-MS, advising researchers on methodology, and contributing to ongoing research projects and publications. University degree in Geosciences or a related natural science discipline
Experience
- Detailed knowledge and experience in sample preparation for geochronological analyses
- Knowledge of solution and laser ablation ICP-MS techniques for determining U, Th, and rare earth concentrations in minerals
- Professional experience in operating and leading geochronological sample preparation laboratories
- Professional experience in conducting and leading geochronological sample analysis using ICP-MS
