Job Summary

As an Animal Welfare Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare within a dynamic family business, primarily focusing on cattle and pig slaughtering operations. Your daily responsibilities will include planning, managing, and overseeing all animal welfare measures, ensuring compliance with EU and national regulations, customer requirements, and internal standards. You will be responsible for documenting and evaluating controls, preparing reports for management, and continuously developing the animal welfare management system. This role involves preparing for and accompanying internal and external audits, as well as communicating with authorities, clients, suppliers, and producers on animal welfare topics. The ideal candidate will possess a relevant academic background or vocational training coupled with practical experience, ideally within the meat industry, and demonstrate strong decision-making, communication, and organizational skills, thriving in a fast-paced environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed degree in Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Food Technology (B.Sc., M.Sc., State Examination) or comparable qualification; or completed vocational training in Animal Care/Animal Husbandry with relevant professional experience; Proof of competence for slaughtering according to VO (EG) Nr. 1099/2009 or willingness to acquire it.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the meat industry or animal production, specifically in slaughtering (ideally)
  • Experience with animal welfare regulations and standards
