Job Summary

This doctoral position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in sustainable materials science, specifically focusing on green electronics. You will be responsible for adapting and advancing the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework, focusing on bio-based materials and their application in sectors like agriculture, health, and textiles. The core objective is to identify application fields with high environmental sustainability potential through rigorous analysis. This role is part of the prestigious EU MCSA Doctoral Network (FERNS), collaborating with 15 parallel PhD students across Europe. Candidates should hold a Master's degree in environmental/natural sciences or engineering and possess experience in developing computational models. Master Degree in environmental/natural sciences or engineering, or similar

Experience

  • Professional experience with developing computational models
  • Preferably some experience with Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), Mass Flows Analysis (MFA), Risk Assessment, or green electronics

  • Applicants must not have lived or carried out their main activity in Switzerland for more than 12 months in the past 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline (MCSA mobility rule). The student will be based at Empa in St. Gallen but enrolled as a PhD student at CML Leiden University NL.
