Job Summary

The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is seeking a highly motivated Doctoral Researcher in Physics for a three-year, part-time position in Berlin-Adlershof. This role focuses on advancing X-ray spectrometric methods, particularly X-ray fluorescence analysis, for precise and quantitative determination of physical and chemical properties in complex sample systems. The successful candidate will independently plan and execute experiments at the BESSY II storage ring, develop and optimize experimental procedures and data analysis methods, and quantify measurement uncertainties. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented physicist to contribute to cutting-edge research in surface analytics, nanotechnology, environmental analytics, and new energy materials within an internationally renowned research environment, with dedicated doctoral supervision and no teaching duties.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Diploma/Master) in Physics or a comparable natural science with an excellent grade

Experience

  • Professional experience in planning and conducting X-ray spectrometric experiments
  • Experience in developing and optimizing evaluation methods and programs for measurement data
  • Experience in investigating and quantifying metrological uncertainties
  • Experience in applying developed methods to metrology or material research questions
