Job Summary

Join a prestigious ERC Synergy initiative, PHOQUS, focused on demonstrating Quantum Dots as the key to scalable photonic quantum computation. As a PhD student, you will play a crucial role in designing, growing, and optimizing novel semiconductor nanostructures using molecular beam epitaxy. This part-time, fixed-term position (3 years) offers a unique opportunity to become an expert in semiconductor quantum technology, working at the intersection of fundamental physics, material science, and advanced semiconductor device engineering. You will be responsible for designing heterostructures, mastering epitaxy growth, performing multimodal characterization, developing innovative epitaxial methods, and supporting lab infrastructure. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, possesses a Master's degree in Physics or a related field, and has a strong 'hands-on' mentality with excellent communication and organizational skills.

Required Skills

Education

Master’s degree in Physics (ideally with a focus on Solid State Physics) or a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in experimental physics research
  • Experience in designing complex semiconductor heterostructures
  • Experience in growing high-quality heterostructures using molecular beam epitaxy
  • Experience in performing morphological, optical, and electronic characterization
  • Experience in setting up, calibrating, and maintaining ultrahigh-vacuum equipment
  • Experience in semiconductor processing (a plus)
  • Experience in optical/electronic characterization (a plus)
  • Experience in epitaxy (a plus)
  • Experience in vacuum handling (a plus)
