Job Summary

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is seeking a Head of Neutron Optics to lead the central group at the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Research Neutron Source (FRM II) in Garching. In this leadership role, you will oversee the development, design, production, and improvement of neutron optical components, including polarizing and non-polarizing neutron supermirrors and multilayer systems. You will manage the group's personnel and budget, operate 3He gas polarization facilities, and act as the primary driver for instrument development projects. A core aspect of the role involves simulating neutron trajectories using Monte Carlo methods and collaborating with international research institutions. The position requires a strong background in physics, specifically thin-film technology and neutron instrumentation, combined with proven leadership experience. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a world-leading research facility, offering a stable environment with excellent benefits, flexible working hours, and a focus on cutting-edge scientific innovation.
