Job Summary

The Borchardt Group is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join their research team focused on advancing sustainable, solvent-free synthetic mechanochemistry. In this role, you will independently design and execute experiments, develop innovative ball milling setups for reactive gas integration, and explore new synthetic methodologies bridging mechanochemistry with catalysis and photochemistry. You will be responsible for characterizing complex products using advanced analytical techniques and interpreting experimental datasets. Beyond your research, you will contribute to the academic community by supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s students, presenting findings at conferences, and authoring manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of green chemistry, focusing on creating novel synthetic concepts for molecules and advanced materials in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. Required Skills

Education

Master’s degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.

Experience

  • University degree (Master's/Diploma) in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • Professional experience in synthetic organic, inorganic, or mechanochemistry
  • Practical experience with advanced analytical techniques such as NMR, GC-MS, HPLC, XRD, or XPS
  • Experience in independent experimental design and troubleshooting
  • Experience in supervising or guiding students in research projects
