Job Summary

As the Head of Department at the Statistical Office for Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, you will lead five divisions with approximately 130 employees. You will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, advising the board on strategic matters and representing the office in national statistical committees. Your day-to-day responsibilities include managing and developing your leadership team, overseeing the quality and alignment of statistical work across sectors like environment, agriculture, and business registers, and driving digital transformation projects. You will be responsible for organizational development, resource planning, and enhancing the visibility of the office through strategic publications. This role is ideal for an experienced leader who is passionate about the societal impact of data and statistics, offering a unique opportunity to shape public policy and democratic participation while working in a flexible, modern, and socially responsible environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master/Diploma) in Economics, Social Sciences, or a comparable field.

Experience

  • Long-term management and leadership experience, preferably within public administration or other senior executive roles.
  • Professional experience in statistics, data analysis, or working with complex information systems.
  • Proven experience in organizational development and resource management.
  • Experience in representing organizations in committees or inter-agency working groups.
