Job Summary

The Institute for Grapevine Breeding at Geilweilerhof is seeking a Research Associate to join the interdisciplinary 'MuSik4Vine' project. This role focuses on developing and evaluating a mobile, multi-modal sensor system for the non-destructive phenotyping of grapevines, including spectral and geometric data collection. You will conduct multi-dimensional laboratory and field measurements, analyze data using statistical modeling, and collaborate with viticulture practitioners to facilitate knowledge transfer. The position involves presenting findings at national and international conferences, coordinating student assistants, and contributing to public relations efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for a researcher with a background in biology or agricultural sciences to drive digitalization in viticulture within a research-oriented, interdisciplinary environment.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree, university diploma, or equivalent in Biology, Agricultural Sciences, or a related discipline; a PhD is preferred.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the development, validation, and application of sensor-based high-throughput phenotyping methods for grapevines.
  • Professional experience in the independent planning, execution, and evaluation of multi-dimensional experiments, ideally in resistance or quality research.
  • Experience in the supervision and coordination of students and temporary staff.
  • Experience in presenting scientific results at international conferences and communicating with practitioners.

  • Valid Class B (Class III) driver's license required. Willingness to travel for multi-day business trips. Must be eligible to work in Germany. International degrees require a ZAB statement of comparability.
