Job Summary

The City of Idar-Oberstein is seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to lead the municipal health management and workplace reintegration programs. In this role, you will act as the primary point of contact for occupational safety, steering the reintegration process for employees returning to work after illness, and advising management on health and safety standards. You will organize and conduct health and safety committee meetings, perform site inspections, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The position requires a high level of empathy, professional communication skills for sensitive reintegration discussions, and a solution-oriented approach to conflict management. This is a permanent, full-time role within the municipal administration, offering a structured environment where you will play a key role in fostering a safe and supportive workplace culture. The ideal candidate will combine administrative expertise with a strong background in social or health sciences and a commitment to employee well-being.

Required Skills

Education

Successful completion of training as a Administrative Specialist (Verwaltungsfachangestellter) with the Second Examination for Municipal Administration (Verwaltungsfachwirt) OR a degree in Social Work, Social Pedagogy, Psychology, or Health Sciences. Ideally, additional qualifications as a Disability Manager or Workplace Health Manager.

Experience

  • Multi-year professional experience in a comparable field of activity
  • Experience in conducting professional interviews and consultations
  • Experience in managing health-related processes or occupational safety standards

German (Fluent)

Additional

  • Must be a citizen or hold a valid work permit for Germany. Ability to perform on-site inspections and lead committee meetings. Adherence to the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD).
