Job Summary
As a Chemist at Applied Materials, you will play a critical role in maintaining the molecular and particulate cleanliness of high-end electron microscope components. You will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and qualifying advanced wet-chemical and dry-cleaning processes for sensitive surfaces. A significant part of your day-to-day will involve performing surface analysis using techniques such as RGA, XPS, AFM, and SEM/EDX, while leading root-cause analyses for contamination issues. You will collaborate closely with R&D teams and external suppliers, driving them toward excellence to ensure smooth manufacturing processes. This role is unique because it sits at the intersection of materials science and high-tech semiconductor manufacturing, offering the opportunity to work on cutting-edge equipment that powers global AI and IoT technologies. You will need a strong background in chemistry or materials science, combined with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively across international teams.
Required Skills
Education
Degree in chemistry, materials science, materials engineering, or a related field.
Experience
- Professional experience in chemistry, materials science, or materials engineering
- Professional experience in surface analytics and contamination characterization
- Professional experience with industrial cleaning processes in high-tech environments such as UHV/XHV, semiconductor, or precision optics
- Professional experience working with equipment manufacturers and external cleaning service providers

- Travel requirement of 10%. Position is located near Munich.
