Job Summary

The University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) is seeking a Data Scientist/Biostatistician to join the AF-B-STEP EU-IHI consortium within the Cardiology Department. In this role, you will design and manage the consortium's data infrastructure and lead large-scale analyses of cardiovascular datasets, including data from over 60 clinical studies and 200,000 patient-years of follow-up. Your daily responsibilities will involve building pipelines for data harmonization, quality assurance, and AI-driven anomaly detection, while collaborating with academic and industrial partners across Europe and Canada. You will also coordinate the central data science team and mentor junior researchers. This position is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in data engineering and clinical research who is motivated to influence international clinical guidelines and regulatory decisions. The role requires a blend of technical excellence, clinical curiosity, and the ability to bridge the gap between complex data and patient-centered medical outcomes.

Required Skills

Education

Master’s degree or PhD in Data Science, (Bio)Informatics, (Bio)Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in data science or a related quantitative field post-graduation
  • Proven technical excellence demonstrated through a portfolio (GitHub, publications, or projects)
  • Experience in developing modern microservice and API-based software
  • Experience with relational databases and version control systems
  • Experience in clinical research data analysis, clinical study standards, or NLP/LLM methods is considered a plus
