Job Summary

This PhD position at the University Heart and Vascular Center (UHZ) within the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) offers a unique opportunity to conduct translational cardiovascular research. As a doctoral candidate, you will work within the EU-IHI consortium 'AF-B-STEP,' focusing on atrial fibrillation. Your day-to-day work involves developing pipelines for harmonizing heterogeneous clinical datasets, including remote patient monitoring, digital ECGs, and wearable time-series data. You will design AI-assisted processes for quality assurance and anomaly detection, contributing to large-scale longitudinal patient data analysis. This role is designed as a qualification position, providing the framework to complete your doctorate while collaborating with an international team of clinical researchers, epidemiologists, and data scientists. The position is ideal for a candidate with a strong quantitative background who is passionate about translating scientific findings into improved patient care and clinical guidelines.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Data Science, (Bio)Informatics, (Bio)Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in developing modern microservice and API-based software
  • Experience with relational databases and version control systems
  • Experience in the analysis of prospective or randomized clinical trial data (desirable)
  • Practical knowledge of NLP or LLM-based methods for information extraction (desirable)
  • Experience in administration of Linux-based research infrastructure and Kubernetes (desirable)
