Job Summary
The Mannheim University of Applied Sciences is seeking a PhD Candidate for a research project focused on autonomous, calibration-free process optimization of chemical syntheses in microreactors. This role involves designing an automated laboratory setup, implementing optimization algorithms, and utilizing online analytical platforms like UV/Vis spectroscopy. You will work at the intersection of academic research and industry, utilizing Multivariate Curve Resolution (MCR) and the Fisher Information Matrix (FIM) to optimize experimental efficiency. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and conducting microreactor experiments, building test rigs, adapting data evaluation algorithms, and mentoring students. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge process engineering while pursuing a cooperative doctorate in a family-friendly environment. Candidates should possess a strong background in chemistry or chemical engineering, numerical mathematics, and laboratory practice, complemented by excellent communication skills in both German and English.
Required Skills
Education
Master's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with a minimum grade of 2.2
Experience
- Professional experience in chemical laboratory environments
- Experience in solving chemical or process engineering problems using numerical mathematics
- Desirable: Industrial experience in pharmaceutical, agricultural, or fine chemical sectors through employment, internships, or thesis work

- Must be eligible to pursue a cooperative doctorate; position is funded at 67% of a full-time equivalent under TV-L EG 13.
