Job Summary

Join the Institute for Medical Systems Bioinformatics and the bAIome Center for Biomedical AI at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). In this role, you will analyze complex biomedical data using cutting-edge AI methods, including Graph Neural Networks, Transformer architectures, and diffusion models. You will develop novel machine and deep learning algorithms, working with multimodal datasets such as omics, imaging, and clinical patient data. A key focus is the development of agentic AI workflows to enhance disease prediction and treatment strategies. You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, biologists, and AI researchers to translate your findings into practical, clinically relevant applications. This position is ideal for a motivated researcher eager to contribute to precision medicine while working in a high-performance computing environment. The role is limited to three years, offering a unique opportunity to conduct impactful research at the intersection of AI and healthcare in a supportive, international, and innovative academic setting.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in independent and creative research, demonstrated through projects, publications, or open-source contributions
  • Experience with modern machine and deep learning methods and frameworks
  • Experience with Python, Linux, and HPC environments
  • Experience with agentic AI systems, automated workflows, or LLM-based development environments (preferred)
  • Experience with multimodal biomedical datasets such as omics, imaging, and clinical data (preferred)
