Job Summary

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a globally significant digital strategy at the Arolsen Archives, the international center on Nazi persecution. As a Data Engineer / Data Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in making millions of historical documents searchable through person searches, geolocation, and subject-based indexing. Your day-to-day work involves designing and implementing innovative solutions for mass data transformation, integration, and standardization. You will collaborate with international partners like Yad Vashem and the USHMM, leveraging cutting-edge technologies including Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and knowledge graphs. This position is ideal for those who want to apply high-level technical skills to a socially relevant mission, building a digital monument for victims of the Nazi regime. The role is characterized by a team-oriented culture with flat hierarchies, flexible working hours, and the possibility of alternating between on-site and remote work.

Required Skills

Education

University degree in Computer Science, Geoinformatics, Business Informatics, Mathematics/Statistics, or a comparable professional qualification/experience.

Experience

  • Professional experience in database management and SQL
  • Proven experience in data integration and mass data processing
  • Professional experience with functional or object-oriented programming languages such as Python or Java
  • Practical experience in processing large data sets specifically related to georeferencing
  • Experience or strong familiarity with AI, machine learning, and cloud technologies
