Job Summary

As a Species Conservation Officer for NABU Berlin, you will play a pivotal role in protecting urban biodiversity within the German capital. Your day-to-day responsibilities involve implementing and evaluating practical conservation measures, such as installing toad fences and ecological enhancement projects. You will act as a technical expert for the team and volunteer groups, drafting official statements for urban planning processes and representing the organization in various committees. This role also includes a significant public outreach component, where you will provide citizen consultations, lead tours, and support media relations. What makes this position unique is the opportunity to work at the intersection of practical fieldwork, legal advocacy, and public engagement within Germany's largest environmental association. Based in the green district of Pankow, you will join a dedicated team committed to making Berlin a more sustainable habitat for local flora and fauna.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Biology or a comparable field of study.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the field of nature and/or species conservation
  • Experience working with non-profit associations and volunteer structures is preferred
  • Expertise in at least one relevant species group (ideally birds)
  • Proven experience in applying legal frameworks for nature protection
  • Experience in organizing and implementing practical conservation measures

  • Valid driver's license required; Position is based in Berlin-Pankow; Fixed-term contract for 2 years with intent for permanent extension; Minimum 30 hours per week.
