Job Summary

This PhD position within the Genomics of Genetic Resources group focuses on the molecular and developmental genetics of barley, specifically investigating the genetic factors controlling awn roughness. As a doctoral candidate, you will spend your days identifying genetic factors for barb and trichome development, investigating pleiotropic effects of specific genes (Raw1 and Raw7), and analyzing spike meristems at a cellular level. The role combines sophisticated bioinformatic data analysis with laboratory-based molecular biology and potentially microscopy. You will work within the world-class infrastructure of the IPK Genebank Department, utilizing vast crop diversity datasets. This position is particularly attractive for researchers seeking a long-term, 4-year commitment in an international environment, offering the opportunity to contribute to high-impact cereal genome research while benefiting from family-friendly working conditions and flexible hours.
