Job Summary
As an Electrical Engineer at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, you will play a pivotal role in advancing cutting-edge research in quantum computing and laser physics. Working within the Quantum and Many-Body Systems department, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of electronic development, from the initial design and layout of analog and digital circuits to the testing and optimization of complex in-house systems. You will collaborate closely with an international team of scientists, providing technical consultancy for laboratory experiments and managing sophisticated RF, microwave, and control systems. This role is unique for its blend of high-level academic research and practical engineering, offering access to state-of-the-art measurement technology and the opportunity to integrate AI-supported tools into the electronics development process. It is an ideal position for an engineer who enjoys diverse technical challenges ranging from discrete circuit layout to the administration of design software like KiCad and LTspice.
Required Skills
Education
University degree in Electrical Engineering or a comparable field of study.
Experience
- Professional experience in the conception and construction of complex electronic components for scientific experiments
- Experience in programming microcontrollers, real-time systems, or FPGAs
- Advanced expertise in discrete circuit layout, analog measurement, or high-frequency electronics
- Proven experience with standard layout software for schematics and BOM management
