Job Summary
This role is based within the Criminal Investigation Department (KK1) of the Ennepe-Ruhr District Police Authority. As a Digital Forensics Specialist, you will be responsible for the technical examination of information technology systems, specifically mobile devices. Your day-to-day tasks involve performing logical and physical data extractions, bypassing access barriers, and repairing damaged hardware for data recovery purposes. You will use automated tools and manual methods to process and analyze extracted data, while also developing custom scripts to optimize forensic workflows. A critical part of the role includes documenting findings for use in court and presenting evidence to investigators, prosecutors, and judges. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of high-level IT and criminal justice, contributing directly to police operations and legal proceedings. It is a permanent, full-time public service position (TV-L E11) in a family-friendly authority that supports work-life balance.
Required Skills
Education
University degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable technical/scientific field; alternatively, a degree in another field with relevant content or a vocational qualification as an IT Specialist/IT Systems Electronician with additional qualifications.
Experience
- Professional experience in IT forensics or a related technical field
- 3 years of professional experience required if holding a non-technical degree with relevant content
- 5 years of professional experience required if applying with a vocational qualification (e.g., IT Systems Electronician)
- Experience in the technical investigation of mobile end devices and information systems
- Experience in creating scripts or programs for process optimization
