Job Summary
As a Bioinformatician at the University of Augsburg's Faculty of Medicine, you will join an interdisciplinary research team focused on Environmental Health Sciences. This role is central to the BIOMEX project, where you will investigate risk signatures and prevention strategies along the gut-brain axis, specifically regarding neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders. Your daily responsibilities involve the quality control, processing, and analysis of shotgun metagenomic data, alongside multi-omics and exposome data. You will integrate biological markers with clinical, nutritional, and lifestyle data to build and maintain pseudonymized research databases and reproducible analysis pipelines. The position is unique for its focus on explainable AI and machine learning to identify disease-specific signatures. You will collaborate closely with medical professionals and basic researchers while contributing to student teaching. This is a three-year fixed-term position offering the opportunity for habilitation within a dynamically growing research environment.
Required Skills
Education
Completed university degree and Doctorate (PhD) in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Biostatistics, or a related field.
Experience
- Professional experience in the analysis of metagenomic and multi-omics data within a human context
- Extensive experience in statistics, multivariate procedures, clustering, and machine learning
- Experience with predictive models, model validation, and/or explainable AI is preferred
- Proven experience in scientific publication, documentation, and result visualization

- The position is initially limited to a three-year contract. Candidates must provide evidence of qualifications through certificates in their application. Participation in student teaching is required.
