Job Summary

This fully funded PhD position at the Meinecke Lab within the Biochemistry Center of Heidelberg University offers a unique opportunity to investigate the molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial membrane organization and lipid transfer. As a doctoral researcher, you will engage in high-level scientific inquiry into how membrane architecture and lipid transport are mechanistically integrated, specifically focusing on the MICOS complex and Ups/PRELID proteins. The role involves a multidisciplinary approach combining protein biochemistry, molecular biology, in vitro reconstitution, and advanced structural biology techniques like cryo-EM. This position is particularly attractive due to its integration into the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1638, providing access to state-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant, international research ecosystem in one of Europe’s premier life science hubs. You will benefit from structured graduate training, international collaboration opportunities, and a supportive lab culture focused on fundamental biological questions.
