Job Summary

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the BioDive4Soil project at the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME. As a PhD Student, you will be central to a nationwide baseline survey of soil biodiversity in Germany. Your day-to-day activities will involve the entire scientific lifecycle: from conducting nationwide soil sampling and laboratory processing to performing complex chemical and molecular biological analyses. You will focus on impact monitoring using environmental DNA (eDNA) to investigate how land use intensity and chemical stress affect biodiversity. This position is ideal for researchers who enjoy a mix of field work, laboratory science, and data analysis. You will collaborate within a large consortium of experts, providing a high-level networking environment. The role is distinguished by its balance of academic rigor and practical application, supported by a modern laboratory environment and a culture that promotes work-life balance through flexible hours and remote work options.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Agriculture, or a comparable field of study.

Experience

  • Professional experience in molecular biology research
  • Experience in conducting scientific data analysis and evaluation
  • Experience in laboratory work and sample preparation
  • Previous experience or knowledge in bioinformatics is preferred
  • Experience in soil science or environmental monitoring is desirable
  • Experience in presenting scientific results
