Job Summary
This role is based at the Technical Investigation Institute (TUA) of the Austrian Customs Office in Vienna. As a Chemist, you will perform chemical-technical examinations on a vast range of goods—from pharmaceuticals and fertilizers to consumer electronics and textiles—to ensure correct customs tariff classification and compliance with import/export restrictions. Your day-to-day work involves conducting independent sample testing, developing chemical-technical methods, and drafting technical expert opinions for administrative and court proceedings. You will also play a key role in procurement by evaluating equipment offers and participating in proficiency testing. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented scientist who enjoys applying laboratory expertise to legal and regulatory frameworks. Required Skills
Education
University degree (University or University of Applied Sciences) in a natural science or technical field, ideally in Chemistry.
Experience
- Professional experience in laboratory work is preferred
- Experience in natural sciences or technical research
- Experience in creating technical expert opinions or reports is beneficial
- Experience with quality standards and regulatory compliance
