Job Summary

This PhD position at the University of Bayreuth offers a unique opportunity to join Professor Dr. Benedikt Westermann’s Cell Biology department. The successful candidate will contribute to a DFG-funded research project focused on the inheritance and biogenesis of cell organelles, specifically investigating how mitochondria influence cellular aging processes. Using yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) as a model organism, you will explore molecular mechanisms that ensure daughter cell rejuvenation during cell division. The role involves planning and conducting experiments, analyzing complex data, and presenting findings at international conferences. This position is particularly attractive due to the laboratory's high-end equipment, which includes high-throughput genetic screening robots and advanced fluorescence and electron microscopy. Candidates will benefit from the structured BayNAT 'Molecular Biosciences' doctoral program within a research-intensive university located in a region known for its high quality of life and affordable living costs.
