Job Summary
This role involves shaping environmental standards for the European wood processing industry. As an Environmental Expert, you will represent national interests in the development of Best Available Techniques (BAT) under the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED). Your daily responsibilities include translating European BAT conclusions into national German regulations, such as the Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control (TA Luft) and the Waste Water Ordinance. You will actively participate in international technical working groups and committees (DIN, VDI) and oversee research projects focused on resource management and the Waste Wood Ordinance. This position is particularly attractive for those looking to influence environmental policy at a high level. It offers the stability of the public sector, flexible working arrangements including mobile work, and a structured onboarding process. While this is a fixed-term maternity cover until July 2027, it provides a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering, law, and sustainability.
Required Skills
Education
Master's degree or University Diploma in Natural Sciences or Engineering (e.g., Environmental Engineering, Process Engineering, Wood Technology, or Energy and Resource Management with a technical focus).
Experience
- Professional experience in environmental or process engineering, specifically within the wood processing or chemical industry.
- Experience in the technical evaluation of emission reduction measures and industrial production processes.
- Experience in navigating European legislative procedures and national environmental legal frameworks.
- Experience in interdisciplinary and international negotiation contexts.
- Previous experience in public administration or regulatory bodies is desirable.
