Job Summary

As a Scientific Data Engineer at Bayer, you will play a pivotal role in solving business-critical challenges within Research and Development. Your day-to-day responsibilities involve developing and implementing scalable semantic data solutions, ETL processes, and NLP pipelines to analyze vast amounts of heterogeneous, text-rich scientific data. You will work closely with interdisciplinary teams of Data Scientists and experimental researchers to bridge the gap between data collection and actionable insights. This role is unique for its focus on life sciences, requiring you to apply advanced analytics and machine learning to improve the pharmaceutical pipeline. You will be responsible for structuring unstructured datasets, maintaining data quality within central semantic platforms, and integrating large-scale data products into global R&D systems. This position offers a highly collaborative environment with flat hierarchies, emphasizing scientific excellence and the automation of internal R&D processes through data-driven methods.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Cheminformatics, or a comparable field; or a PhD in a related discipline.

Experience

  • Professional experience in Data Engineering and the integration of heterogeneous data sources
  • 1-2 years of experience in Life Science applications (for PhD holders)
  • Several years of professional experience in Computer Science or related fields (for Master's holders)
  • Practical experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as Elasticsearch, Neo4J, or PostgreSQL
  • Experience with information extraction using NLP, LLMs, and RAG approaches
  • Proven experience with Cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and version control
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred
