Job Summary
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is seeking two Master Craftsmen or Technicians to serve as Reactor Operators and Shift Supervisors at the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Research Neutron Source (FRM II) in Garching. This role involves the responsible operation of one of the world's most advanced high-flux neutron sources. Following an extensive internal and external training program, you will work primarily from the central control room, monitoring complex systems, performing inspections, and ensuring the facility operates according to strict safety protocols. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a high-tech scientific environment that is exempt from the nuclear phase-out, contributing to vital medical isotope production and European research. The role transitions into a 3-shift system (38.5 hours/week) after the initial training phase, offering additional leave days and the stability of a university setting.
Required Skills
Education
Completed vocational training in a metal or electrical trade, or in water supply/waste management, supplemented by a further qualification as a Master Craftsman (Meister) or State-Certified Technician (Staatlich geprüfter Techniker).
Experience
- Professional experience in the field of metal, electrical, or water supply/waste management
- Experience in a technical or industrial environment is preferred
- Proven ability to handle complex decision-making and responsibility
- Experience working in team-oriented environments

Additional
- Must pass a nuclear reliability check (security clearance). Willingness to work in a 3-shift system (24/7 rotation). The position is initially limited to 2 years, with the intention of permanent employment upon passing the facility examination. Location: Garching, Germany.
