As a Science Manager specializing in large-scale research facilities, you will operate at the critical intersection of science, politics, and society. Based in either Hamburg or Bonn, your day-to-day responsibilities involve managing research policy strategies and navigating the national funding landscape, specifically within the ErUM (Exploration of Universe and Matter) framework. You will represent the organization to high-level stakeholders in research and government, ensuring that large-scale scientific projects—such as those involving CERN, ESRF, or FAIR—align with federal research trends. This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong scientific background who possesses a strategic mindset and an interest in science policy. Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Physics or Chemistry; a Doctorate (PhD) is preferred.

Experience

  • Professional experience in natural science fundamental research at large-scale facilities (e.g., CERN, ESRF, FAIR, IceCube, ILL, VLT)
  • Extensive knowledge of federal research policy strategies and trends
  • Proven experience navigating the national economic system and research funding landscape
  • Experience working at the interface of science, politics, and society
  • Experience in strategic planning and understanding research policy contexts
