Job Summary

The German Weather Service (DWD) is seeking a Scientific Officer for its Center for Agrometeorological Research in Braunschweig. This role involves crucial day-to-day tasks supporting agricultural meteorology, including providing irrigation consulting, performing programming tasks within the AMBER system, and assisting with property management. The successful candidate will also organize agro-climate and extreme weather runs on UNIX systems and support the procurement and management of specialized agrometeorological equipment. This position is ideal for someone with a background in natural sciences, strong organizational skills, and a collaborative spirit, eager to contribute to vital weather and climate information services for the public and economy.

Required Skills

Education

Completed relevant vocational training in a natural science field or a completed career training in the mid-level scientific service. Recognition of training equivalence with the weather service technical examination is required after an internal training course.

Experience

  • Professional experience in natural sciences or a completed career training in the mid-level scientific service
  • Desirable: Experience in agrometeorological irrigation consulting
  • Desirable: Experience with data collection, evaluation, distribution, and programming
  • Desirable: Experience with administrative tasks, ideally in property management

Additional

  • Must be physically fit for strenuous outdoor work in adverse weather conditions. This is a fixed-term contract from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2029. Part-time work is possible. Must be eligible for a security clearance (implied by government role).
