Job Summary
This role involves the comprehensive management and development of mobile Geographic Information System (GIS) solutions for ThüringenForst, the largest forestry operation in Thuringia. As a GIS Development Specialist, you will provide high-level user support, conduct training sessions, and manage geodata workflows. Your day-to-day responsibilities include the administration of geodatabases, programming adjustments to existing IT systems, and the conceptual design of new mobile applications. A unique aspect of this position is the integration of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and remote sensing data into forestry processes, including the planning and evaluation of drone flights. You will act as a bridge between technical GIS requirements and forestry-specific needs, ensuring data quality and operational efficiency. This is a fixed-term position until December 31, 2027, offering a collaborative environment focused on climate-resilient forest management and modern technical equipment.
Required Skills
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Geoinformatics, Environmental Informatics, Geography, or a comparable qualification.
Experience
- Professional experience in GIS development and mobile geodata acquisition
- Experience in conceptual modeling of GIS-supported processes
- Experience with remote sensing data sources and analysis methods
- Experience in organizing and conducting technical training and user support
- Experience in managing database interfaces and software rollout processes

Additional
- Valid Class B driver's license required. Position is fixed-term until December 31, 2027. EU Drone License (A1/A3) preferred. Foreign degrees must include official recognition from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB).
