Job Summary

As a Senior Principal Scientist in Discovery Process Chemistry, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between drug discovery and clinical development at Bayer. Your daily activities will involve leading chemical process research and development, specifically focusing on route design and process optimization for small molecule drug candidates and synthetic modalities like peptides. You will manage external partners and Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMOs) to ensure the efficient supply of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) for preclinical and early clinical phases. A key part of this role is evaluating state-of-the-art chemical technologies and digital chemistry tools to improve yield, quality, and cost-efficiency. Required Skills

Education

PhD in organic chemistry or a related scientific discipline

Experience

  • Long-term professional experience in process chemistry and relevant technologies, preferably at the R&D interface in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Extensive experience in managing external partners, suppliers, or working within a CRO/CDMO environment
  • Proven track record in chemical route assessment and manufacturing supply concepts
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing complex projects and influencing cross-functional teams
  • Experience in presenting scientific findings to internal stakeholders and at international conferences
