PhD Candidate - Microbiology of Functional Beverages | Promotionsstelle - Microbiology of Functional Beverages
Technische Universität München Verwaltungsstelle Weihenst
Job Summary
This PhD position at the TUM School of Life Sciences focuses on advancing the scientific foundations of functional beverages within the newly established Breselge Lab. The successful candidate will spend their day-to-day isolating, cultivating, and characterizing microbial strains from fermented systems such as water kefir. Key responsibilities include planning lab-scale fermentation experiments, analyzing chemical and microbiological parameters, and integrating complex datasets to understand microbial interactions and metabolic outputs. The role requires a Master's degree in Biology or Microbiology and a strong interest in fermentation technology. This position is particularly attractive as it offers a structured graduate education at an elite university (TUM), access to state-of-the-art research infrastructure, and the opportunity to collaborate with international partners and industrial stakeholders. You will contribute to cutting-edge research that bridges the gap between classical microbiology and modern molecular biology, with the ultimate goal of designing controlled, health-oriented fermentation systems.
