Job Summary
The University of Bonn, an internationally renowned University of Excellence, is seeking a Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead its digital transformation. Reporting directly to the Rectorate, you will hold overall responsibility for the strategic planning and management of information and communication technologies across research, teaching, and administration. Your primary focus will be steering a comprehensive organizational development process to modernize the university's integrated IT landscape. This role offers significant creative freedom to shape an ambitious digitalization agenda while collaborating closely with the Digital Science Center (DiCe) and the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). You will manage central and decentralized IT units, oversee IT infrastructure expansion, and foster a culture of digital innovation. This is a high-level leadership position that positions IT as a strategic partner in university development, requiring a visionary professional capable of navigating complex stakeholder environments and securing external funding for innovative IT projects.
Required Skills
Education
University degree (Master's level or equivalent) is required; a Doctorate (PhD) is considered an advantage.
Experience
- Extensive and proven experience in change management and structural transformation within large, complex organizations
- Professional experience in the academic, research, or public sector preferred
- Proven track record in securing external funding for IT projects
- Deep expertise in digital transformation and its implications for research and teaching
- Experience in personnel development and recruitment of IT specialists in competitive environments
- Comprehensive relevant professional experience in a senior leadership capacity

- Appointment as a civil servant (Beamtenverhältnis) is possible up to age 42 (or 45 for individuals with disabilities). Position is based in Bonn with options for flexible working hours and home office. Remuneration is based on salary group A 16.
