Job Summary

As a Laboratory Technician II in the Virus Clearance department at Charles River in Cologne, you will play a critical role in the discovery and safe production of new drug therapies. Your day-to-day responsibilities involve the meticulous execution and documentation of viral safety studies according to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards. This includes organizing and performing various methods such as virus filtration, inactivation, and chromatography to validate the manufacturing processes of biological medicines. You will handle chemicals, operate laboratory equipment, and conduct cell culture-based assays evaluated via light microscopy. A unique aspect of this role is working with viruses at BSL-2 and BSL-3 safety levels and providing technical support to international clients visiting the laboratory. Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as a Biological Technical Assistant (BTA) or Biology Laboratory Technician, or a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biology, Biotechnology, or a related natural science field.

Experience

  • At least 3 years of professional experience as a Biological Technical Assistant (BTA), Biology Laboratory Technician, or B.Sc. in Biology/Biotechnology
  • Professional experience in the execution and documentation of laboratory studies under GLP standards
  • Experience in handling laboratory equipment and experimental setups
  • Practical experience with cell cultures and sterile working techniques is preferred
  • Initial theoretical or practical knowledge of chromatography using ÄKTA systems is preferred
