Job Summary

The Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn is seeking a Scientific Programmer and Modeller to join their Ecological Modelling Research Group. This role involves the maintenance, documentation, and further development of mechanistic ecological models, focusing on runtime optimization, calibration, and utilizing High-Performance Computing (HPC) for simulations. The successful candidate will also promote best practices in modelling and data management within the team and assist with raw data analysis, including images and LiDAR. This permanent, full-time position offers a challenging opportunity to contribute to understanding and predicting biodiversity dynamics through advanced ecological and eco-evolutionary modelling.

Required Skills

Education

Bachelor's and Master's degrees in computer science, geoecology, biology, physics, mathematics, or similar disciplines

Experience

  • Professional experience in scientific software programming
  • Strong experience and knowledge in programming mechanistic, individual-based, and/or theoretical ecological as well as eco-evolutionary models
  • Experience with AI methods (advantageous)
  • Experience with parallel and high-performance computing (advantageous)
  • Experience with interactive software (advantageous)
  • Experience with front-end development (advantageous)
  • Experience in programming with multiple computer languages (e.g., R, Julia, Java, MATLAB, C++) (desirable)
  • Experience in parameterizing models (desirable)
