Job Summary

The Digital Health Lab Düsseldorf at the University Hospital Düsseldorf is seeking a Research Associate to lead groundbreaking research at the intersection of medicine, computer science, and engineering. In this role, you will take scientific responsibility for a state-of-the-art experimental operating room and intensive care unit. Your daily tasks will involve establishing and leading an interdisciplinary research group focused on 'Intelligent, Connected Clinical Environments,' as well as initiating and managing national and international research projects. You will work on developing AI-supported decision systems, robotics, and interoperable medical device standards (SDC, FHIR) to improve patient care. This position is particularly attractive as it offers a four-year initial contract with a permanent career option, providing access to top-tier clinical infrastructure and a strong network of industrial and academic partners in a leading medical center.

Required Skills

Education

Completed Doctorate (PhD / Dr.-Ing. / Dr. rer. nat.) in Computer Science, Medical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in leading an interdisciplinary research group
  • Proven track record of successful scientific publications in relevant journals and conferences
  • Experience in acquiring and managing third-party funded projects
  • Professional experience in Visual Computing, AI, Robotics, or Signal Processing for medical applications
  • Experience in clinical environments (OR or ICU) preferred
  • Experience in planning and conducting clinical trials or experimental evaluations preferred
  • Leadership and team development experience preferred
