Job Summary

This leadership role involves managing the Information Technology department at the Statistical Office of Bremen. You will be responsible for the entire IT infrastructure, including hardware and software operations, for a staff of approximately 80 permanent employees. A key part of the role includes the technical preparation and execution of high-stakes projects such as elections and census data collection. You will lead a team of five IT professionals, ensuring smooth operations while collaborating with federal and state-level committees. The position offers a unique blend of strategic planning, IT security management, and budget administration within a public service context. It is particularly attractive due to its long-term stability, flexible working arrangements, and the opportunity to influence IT standards for regional statistical operations. A specialized technical allowance may be granted for the first five years depending on qualifications.

Required Skills

Education

Bachelor's degree or Diploma (FH) in Computer Science, or a degree in a related field with an IT focus (e.g., Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering).

Experience

  • At least 3 years of practical experience in the IT sector handling tasks of particular difficulty or significance
  • Proven multi-year leadership experience
  • Several years of experience in practical IT operations management and technical leadership
  • Experience in application development
  • Experience in IT process design and project management is preferred
