Job Summary

As a Field Service Engineer for Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will join the Analytical Instruments team to provide technical support for cutting-edge Bulk Elemental Analysis systems. Your daily responsibilities include the installation, maintenance, and repair of OES, XRF, and XRD spectroscopy instruments, as well as associated robotics and automation systems. You will act as a critical technical expert for customers across North Rhine-Westphalia and Western Germany, performing systematic troubleshooting and preventative maintenance. This role is highly autonomous, allowing you to manage your own schedule and coordinate directly with clients from a home-office base. It is an ideal position for a service-oriented professional who enjoys technical problem-solving and frequent travel. Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training or a degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering, or a comparable technical field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the service or maintenance of technical systems
  • Experience in the field of spectroscopy is considered an advantage
  • Proven track record in independent planning and coordination of service assignments
  • Experience in a customer-facing role with a focus on high service orientation

Additional

  • Valid driver's license required. High willingness to travel (approximately 80%), including multi-day trips within Germany and occasional travel within the EMEA region. Must be comfortable wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and lab coats. Residence in the North Rhine-Westphalia region (e.g., Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Cologne, or Bonn) is preferred.
