Job Summary

This role offers a leadership opportunity within the Environmental Microbiology & Water Hygiene department at the renowned Hygiene Institute of the Ruhr Area. As the Deputy Head of Department, you will be responsible for the professional and disciplinary representation of the department head, ensuring the quality monitoring of raw and drinking water in compliance with legal standards. Your daily activities will include providing expert consultation to clients regarding microbiological water analysis (specifically focusing on Legionella), overseeing the central laboratory, and acting as a vital interface between the laboratory, field staff, and other internal departments. You will also contribute to the establishment of new biological processes in environmental microbiology. Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or Diploma in Water Science, Water Supply/Technology, Environmental Microbiology, Drinking Water Hygiene, Environmental Medicine, or a comparable field of study.

Experience

  • Professional experience in environmental microbiology or water hygiene management
  • Experience working with biological agents of risk group 2 and pathogens according to IfSG or TierSeuchErV is preferred
  • Experience in the microbiological analysis of water samples according to regulatory standards
  • Leadership experience in a professional or disciplinary capacity
  • Experience in customer service and technical consulting within a scientific context
