Job Summary
This role is based within the Bacteriology Laboratory of the Lower Saxony State Health Office (NLGA) in Hannover. As a key member of an interdisciplinary team, you will perform diagnostic testing for public health institutions, focusing on pathogen detection, identification, and resistance testing. Your daily responsibilities include processing clinical samples using classical culture methods, performing extensive stool diagnostics for gastroenteritis pathogens (such as Salmonella and EHEC), and utilizing molecular biological procedures like PCR. You will also work in a specialized S3 laboratory for tuberculosis diagnostics and contribute to the establishment and validation of new testing methods. This position offers a stable, permanent contract within the public service sector (TV-L), providing a meaningful opportunity to protect public health in Lower Saxony. The role is unique for its blend of routine diagnostics and the development of new molecular typing methods, all while operating within a highly professional, accredited laboratory environment.
Required Skills
Education
Completed vocational training as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MTL/MTLA), (Veterinary) Medical Technical Assistant (MTA/VMTA), Biological Technical Assistant (BTA) with medical laboratory focus, or Biology Laboratory Assistant.
Experience
- Several years of professional experience required for candidates with Medical Laboratory Technologist (MTL/MTLA/MTA) qualifications
- Long-term professional experience in a medical laboratory required for candidates with Biological Assistant (BTA) or Biology Laboratory Assistant qualifications
- Professional experience in clinical bacteriology and molecular genetics
- Experience in establishing and validating new laboratory procedures
- Experience in quality assurance, including documentation and testing controls
