Job Summary
The German Physical Society (DPG) is seeking a seasoned leader to serve as Executive Director, overseeing operations at their Bad Honnef and Berlin offices. In this high-impact role, you will hold full responsibility for the operational, commercial, and administrative management of the society, including finance, HR, IT, event management, and public relations. You will lead an interdisciplinary team of over 25 employees and work closely with volunteer members and international partner organizations. Additionally, you will serve as the sole Managing Director for the DPG's subsidiary congress and administrative company. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of one of the world's leading physical societies, requiring a blend of scientific passion and professional management excellence. The role is based in Bad Honnef and is set to begin in March 2027, offering a five-year contract with the possibility of extension.
Required Skills
Education
University degree in Physics or another natural science subject; a Doctorate (PhD) is preferred.
Experience
- Proven leadership experience in a senior management role
- Extensive experience in research and science management, ideally within a non-profit, association, university, or research institution
- Significant experience with modern working methods and IT infrastructure development
- Strong networking experience within the scientific community
- Demonstrated experience in negotiation, moderation, and conflict management

- The position is a full-time executive role with a 5-year fixed-term contract (extension possible). Must be willing to work primarily in Bad Honnef. The role involves acting as a legal representative under § 30 BGB. Start date is March 1, 2027.
